YORK COUNTY — York County Public Library was presented with the Virginia Gold Standard of Excellence Award at a recent Virginia Public Library Directors Association conference.
According to York County Public Affairs, the award is given to public libraries in Virginia that meet all levels of service requirements, including governance and administration, funding, staffing and staff development, access and services, collections, facilities, technology, programming, publicity, and advocacy.
Also at the conference, Librarian Pearl Derlaga received the Outstanding Staff Member award for “initiative, leadership abilities, and a commitment to the library profession.” In addition, Ms. Derlaga’s Library Murder Mystery program won the Outstanding Adult Program Award for libraries serving a population of between 50,000 and 99,999.
“I am grateful for the excellent library staff and the support of York County that has made these awards possible,” said Kevin Smith, Director of Library Services. “My sincere congratulations to Ms. Derlaga for her award and her award-winning program.”
The York County Public Library has a branch in Tabb at 100 Long Green Blvd., and in Yorktown at 8500 George Washington Memorial Highway. Both branches maintain a physical and digital collection, offer a variety of programs for all ages, and provide computers for use by patrons.
