Local Easter Market helps highlight small businesses in Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Sunny Day’s Vendor Market hosts different markets on the second Saturday of every month. Today, they collaborated with Sunflower Community Inc. and Jenny Mac’s Vendor Events to host the first-ever Easter market.

The goal for the event was an affordable and fun day for kids to enjoy while simultaneously promoting small and local businesses.

“It gives a chance for local Topekans to come together and shop small because people always talk about it but nobody ever actually has the ability to do so,” Sunny Day’s owner Alyssa Bailey said. “It just helps bring income to the small businesses rather than large corporate businesses instead.”

While the day had its fair share of food trucks, crafts, raffles, and of course an egg hunt for the kids—the entire day attendees were able to check out and support many vendors both inside and outside.

Kelsey Spencer owns K Spencer Collective, a permanent jewelry and gameday attire business. She does not have a storefront and has to rely on social media for business. Events like this allow her to reach a wider audience and show off her products in person.

Spencer also emphasized the importance of connecting with other small business owners.

“I have been doing this for about a year now, and it has been really helpful to go out and do vendor events, connect with other small businesses through word of mouth, and have people come in and shop,” Spencer said. “I think small business right now it’s tough, so we really rally and surround each other and help each other, support, so if I have to go to the restroom somebody can watch my booth and things like that.”

Alyssa Bailey and Jenny Mac confirmed this will become an annual event. Sunny Day’s Vendor Market’s next event is scheduled for April 13 at the Owl’s Nest and will feature over 140 vendors.
