‘Hope he won’t call people in Agra, Mathura…’: RLD Chief’s jibe at Rahul Gandhi for ‘drunken youth’ remark | India

NEW DELHI: Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Chief Jayant Chaudhary on Sunday took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi for his remarks “I saw people lying drunk and dancing on roads of Varanasi” and said that he hopes that the Congress MP would not call the people of Agra and Mathura as “alcoholic”.
“My best wishes to his (Rahul Gandhi) yatra. Hopefully, he won’t come to Agra and Mathura and say people here are also alcoholic,” RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary told ANI.
Chaudhary, who recently ditched INDIA bloc and joined BJP-led NDA, made such statement in reference to Rahul Gandhi’s speech in Amethi during his ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra.
The Congress MP had said “I went to Varanasi and I saw people lying drunk on roads. The future of Uttar Pradesh was drunk and dancing on the roads during the night. On the other hand, there is the Ram Mandir where you will see the likes of PM Modi, Ambani, Adani. You will see India’s billionaires there but not a single person from a backward class or the dalit community.”
Following this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week said he was shocked when he heard the ‘nashedi’ word used to describe the youth of Uttar Pradesh.
“The youth of Kashi and of Uttar Pradesh are working hard to make it a developed state. Today when UP is changing, the youth of the state are busy writing their bright future, these dynasts are maligning them. The Yuvraj of Congress says the youth of Kashi, the youth of UP are alcoholics. What kind of language is this? They (opposition parties) spent two decades abusing Modi and now they are venting their frustration on devotees of God and the youth of UP,” the Prime Minister said at a rally in Varanasi.
