This Tahoe house just hit the market — for $76M

A home on Incline Village’s prestigious Lakeshore Boulevard could become the most expensive private home ever sold in Lake Tahoe. For now, it stands as one of the most expensive listings ever, at an asking price of $76 million for the 5-acre property. 

The seven-bedroom home on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe has a 200-foot stretch of private beach, plus a private pier and raised Jet Ski platform. The home itself is more than 12,000 square feet, with an additional 1,500-square-foot guest house. Multimillionaires like Oracle founder Larry Ellison, tech billionaire David Duffield and NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers have also owned property in the area. 

“We have so many stunning homes in Incline, but when I walked through the front door of this home for the first time and looked out at the lake from the deck, I could hardly catch my breath,” Christine Perry, luxury real estate agent with Christie’s International Real Estate Sereno, told SFGATE. “It feels like you are walking into another world when you come through that door.”

Built in 1994 by former Wynn Resorts Chairman Steve Wynn, who named the house “Old Forge,” the property sold to a trust in 1998 for $17 million. The home last changed hands in 2017 for $31 million, less than half of the 2023 asking price. Perry says it has received significant upgrades in recent years, including a patio rebuild and the addition of a second kitchen in the home’s large game room.

The home is the priciest listing in Lake Tahoe and, if sold at asking, would set a record for the most expensive private home purchase in the Tahoe Basin. The current record for the most expensive private home sale in Lake Tahoe is $48 million, sold in 2013. That property, in Zephyr Cove and dubbed “Tranquility,” also holds the highest listing price, when it was listed at $100 million in 2022.

The famed Thunderbird estate, and its 140 acres, was sold for $50 million in 1998, though the sale marked the end of the property as a private home. It’s now a museum open for public tours and events, managed by a local nonprofit organization. And Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg bought two properties in Tahoe City, also on the north shore, for a combined $59 million in 2018 and 2019 — though it was technically two separate sales. 

The second-most expensive home listing around Lake Tahoe is the famous “Crystal Pointe,” listed in June for $49.5 million (and previously listed for $75 million in 2017, making it the most expensive home listing ever in Tahoe at the time). The property sits on roughly 5 acres with a private beachfront and boasts two private funiculars to move between the beach and the home’s clifftop living space. 

While the new buyer of Old Forge won’t get any funiculars in the deal, they will get all en-suite bedrooms, a sprawling kitchen, an eight-seat media room, a game room and a wine room with a wet bar.

“Properties like this are generational and rarely become available,” Perry says. “Someone who is familiar with this area of Lake Tahoe will understand that the privacy, prestige and endless possibilities offered by this type of estate may not become available again for another 10 or 20 years.”
