Weld County oil spills for Jan. 24 – Greeley Tribune


The following spills were reported to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in the past two weeks.

Information is based on Form 19, which operators must fill out detailing the leakage/spill events. Any spill release that may impact waters of the state must be reported as soon as practical. Spills and leaks typically are found during routine maintenance on existing wells, though some actual “spills” do occur among the 17,000-plus wells in the county.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Jan. 18 a historical well spill near Weld County Road 46 and 44, about 8 miles south of Kersey. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned wellhead. Five soil samples exceeded COGCC standards for organic compounds.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Jan. 17 a historical well spill near Weld 56 and 55, about 3 miles northeast of Kersey. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned wellhead. Two soil samples exceeded COGCC standards for 1,2,4-triemthylbenzene, 1,3,5-triemthylbenzene and 1- methylnaphthalene. One groundwater sample exceeded COGCC standards for benzene, toluene, xylenes, 1,2,4-triemthylbenzene and 1,3,5-triemthylbenzene.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Jan. 17 a historical well spill near Weld 55 and 42, about 8 miles south of Kersey.  An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned wellhead. Four soil samples exceeded COGCC standards for total petroleum hydrocarbons, 1,2,4 trimethylbenzene, 1-methylnaphthalene, 2-methylnaphthalene, benzo(a)anthracene and naphthalene.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Jan. 13 a recent spill near Weld 57 and 40, about 12 miles south of Kersey. Between 5 and 100 barrels of produced water spilled. A person noticed fluid coming from a valve on the produced water recycle line. The line was immediately shut-in, the repair was made and cleanup is ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Jan. 13 a historical tank battery spill near BeeBee Draw Farms Parkway and Weld 41 1/2, about 11 miles northeast of Platteville. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found following facility decommissioning. Excavation and assessment are ongoing.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported Jan. 13 a historical well spill near Weld 66 and 45 in Greeley. An unknown amount of produced fluid spilled. A historic release was found near the wellhead.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Jan. 11 a historical well spill near Weld 36 and 25, about 3 miles north of Platteville. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found following cut and cap at the wellhead. Excavation and assessment are ongoing.

» BONANZA CREEK ENERGY OPERATING COMPANY LLC reported Jan. 11 a recent tank batter spill near 69 and 56, about 16 miles east of Kersey. A maintenance crew, installing a two-inch check valve on a produced water dump line riser, saw a line parted at the fiberglass to steel transition, which released 5 barrels of produced water to the pad surface. The impacted soil will be removed and hauled to a COGCC-approved disposal facility. Confirmation soil samples were collected and submitted for lab analysis.

» CRESTONE PEAK RESOURCES OPERATING LLC reported Jan. 11 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 17 and 10, about 5 miles southeast of Dacono. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historical impacts were found during reclamation at the decommission tank battery. One soil sample exceeded COGCC standards for benzene, ethylbenzene, naphthalene and trimethylbenzene.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Jan 10 a historical flowline spill near Weld 35 and 34, about 6 miles northeast of Platteville. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found during the removal of the flowline. Excavation and assessment are ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Jan. 10 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 39 and 38, about 7 miles southeast of Gilcrest. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found near the produced water vessel during tank battery removal. The volume of the release is unknown. Assessment is ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Jan. 9 a historical flowline spill near Colorado Boulevard and Colo. 52 in Frederick. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found following flowline decommissioning. Excavation and assessment are ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Jan. 9 a historical flowline spill near Cavanaugh Road and Weld 32, about 9 miles east of Platteville. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found during the removal of the flowline associated with the wellhead. Excavation and assessment are ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Jan. 9 a historical well spill near Weld 24 and Frontier Street in Firestone. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found following cut and cap at the wellhead. Excavation and assessment are ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Jan. 6 a historical tank battery spill near Colo. Blvd and Colo. 52 in Frederick. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found following facility decommissioning. Excavation and assessment are ongoing.
