On the market: Portland’s riverfront homes can be an affordable luxury

Gardeners may be talking about what’s growing in their yards right now, but spring also brings ever-changing scenery to people living on the water, who may have binoculars focused on great blue herons.

Riverfront homes also are jumping off points to water sports.

Brian Johnson of Windermere Realty Trust tells interested buyers that a daylight ranch he has listed for sale at 13707 N.E. Marine Dr. on the Columbia River in Portland has a 25-foot-by-31-foot deck and 120 feet of waterfront living complete with a private boat dock.

“Bring your paddle board, kayak, outrigger or fishing boat,” he says.

Living on the water is a lifestyle, he adds.

And for those who want a yard, this property, which is for sale at $795,000, has a vegetable garden plus a pergola with a fire pit. There is also an income-producing rental unit.

A Portland home overlooking the Columbia or Willamette rivers can be pricey. A contemporary penthouse in the Vista Condominiums at 1150 N.W. Quimby St. #1908 in the Pearl District is listed at $2,621,000. But there are less expensive ways to have a nonstop water view.

13707 N.E. Marine Dr. between the Columbia River and Northeast Marine Drive in Portland is listed at $795,000 by Brian Johnson of Windermere Realty Trust.

The daylight ranch, built in 1958, has two bedrooms on the main level, triple-paned windows and 2,623 square feet of living space. There is also a one-bedroom apartment on the lower level plus a shop and oversized garage.

“The large deck is reminiscent of your favorite waterfront vacation destination,” says Johnson. “View the sunrise and the sunset each day from this northern exposure with 180-degree views.”

535 N.E. Bridgeton Road #4 in Portland’s Bridgeton neighborhood is listed at $199,900, which includes furnishings and appliances.

The updated floating home, at Kappler’s Moorage along the Columbia River, was built in 1940 and has a metal roof, pellet stove, ductless air conditioner, quartz counters, one bedroom, one bathroom and 607 square feet of living space plus two car parking spots.

“Park your boat, kayak or canoe directly in front of your new home,” says listing agent Mary Nguyen with Chrissy Tese-Moe of Premiere Property Group. Slip dues are $850 a month.

910 N.W. Naito Pkwy Unit I-11 in Portland’s Old Town is listed at $267,900.

The contemporary-style condo, built in 1982 in McCormick Pier Condominium complex, has an open floor plan, a wall of windows in the living room, one bedroom, one bathroom and 700 square feet of living space.

There is a community swimming pool, hot tub, fire pit, picnic tables and waterfront, paved bike path.

“Enjoy the stunning view of the Willamette River and Moda Center,” says listing agent Jennifer Oh of World Wide Realty Inc. Homeowner’s association dues are $347 a month.

2045 N. Jantzen in Portland’s Jantzen Beach Moorage on Hayden Island is listed at $439,000.

The two-story, Craftsman-style floating house was built in 1978 and has a gas fireplace, sunroom with a balcony, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and 1,675 square feet of living space.

The dining room opens to a 33-foot-by-20-foot deck. There is also a workshop area and space for boats.

“Are you ready for life on the Columbia River? This slice of heaven is full of amenities,” says listing agent Susan Gerlach-Colton of RE/MAX Equity Group. Association dues are $400 a month.

905 N. Harbour Dr. #10 in Portland’s Bridgeton neighborhood is listed at $515,000.

The tri-level townhouse, built in 2000 overlooking the Columbia River, has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a bonus room on the top floor and 2,667 square feet of living space.

The complex with 32 units has clubhouse facilities.

“The path along the river is waiting for you to explore,” says listing agent Natasha Ochs of HomeSmart Realty Group. Homeowners association dues are $842 a month.
