Boeing CFO says second-quarter deliveries won’t increase from the first quarter

Boeing CFO Brian West said Thursday that commercial jet deliveries won’t step up in the second quarter compared with the first three months of the year as the company reckons with production quality issues. West also told the Wolfe Research Global Transportation and Industrials Conference the planemaker’s jet deliveries to China were delayed in recent weeks due to a Chinese regulatory review of batteries powering the cockpit voice recorder, confirming an earlier Reuters report. The company’s jet production has slowed dramatically in the face of increased scrutiny from regulators, airlines and lawmakers following a January incident when a door plug blew off an Alaska Airlines jetliner while in mid-air.

Kerala rains: IMD issues red alert for Ernakulam, Thrissur

The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rains in Kerala’s Ernakulam and Thrissur districts for Thursday. An orange alert has been declared for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad for today and Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki districts for tomorrow. Due to the expected strong winds and bad weather, it is advised not to venture into the sea from the Kerala coast until further notice, according to an official release issued by the Kerala Chief Minister’s office. Heavy rains can create hazards, including flash floods, urban waterlogging, and landslides. Residents, particularly those in unsealed houses or houses with weak roofs, should exercise caution. If danger is imminent, contact authorities and evacuate to safe places. Currently, 223 people have been relocated to 8 camps across the state, according to the release.

The Pakistan central bank’s foreign exchange reserves rose by $22 million to stand at $9.15 billion in the week ending May 17, up from $9.13 billion in the preceding week, the State Bank of Pakistan said on Thursday.

DoT asks telcos to reverify 6.8 lakh suspect mobile connections

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked telcos to reverify around 6.8 lakh mobile connections suspected to have been taken through forged documents. The move is part of its ongoing drive to stop spam and online fraud. Once the reverification exercise is completed in 60 days, the numbers which have been taken fraudulently, will be disconnected. The DoT suspects these numbers have been obtained using invalid, non-existent, or fake/forged proof of identity (PoI) and proof of address (PoA) KYC documents.
