Freddie Freeman Seen as Undervalued For Dodgers Entering 2024 Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers have three of the top 10 players in Major League Baseball on their roster, with Mookie Betts at No. 2, Shohei Ohtani at No. 4 and Freddie Freeman at No. 5.

For former New York Mets general manager and current MLB Network personality Steve Phillips, Freeman should be ahead of Betts.

“I think Freddie Freeman gets disregarded in some ways and, believe it or not, undervalued and underappreciated as a player… Freeman has a shot at the Gold Glove and who would you rather have at the plate in a critical situation, Mookie Betts or Freddie Freeman?”

When it comes down to pure statistics, Freeman led the Dodgers last season with a .331 batting average, a .410 on-base percentage, 211 hits, 131 runs scored, 59 doubles and 23 stolen bases.

Betts was second with a .307 batting average, a .408 on-base percentage, 179 hits, 126 runs scored, 40, and doubles, but he led the team with 39 home runs and 107 RBIs.

However, the biggest difference for Phillips is defense. Betts is moving to second base and doesn’t know if he is a Gold Glove-caliber second baseman right now compared to Freeman, who is the gold standard at first base.

But, if Friday was any indication about the type of season in store for Freeman, then he made it known that it would be a big one.
