Johnny Carson’s Former Rye Home Hits The Market For $5.3M

RYE, NY — If you’ve ever had your eye on the 6-bedroom stone manor on Puritan Road in Rye, once owned by Johnny Carson, your chance is finally here because it is on the market for the first time in 42 years.

The listing, by Christina Murphy of Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty, describes the property as having “off-the-chart amenities, character, proximity and property,” and being “ideal for those seeking a blend of sophistication, comfort, privacy.”

According to the listing, the six-bedroom, 7.5-bath, 9,923-sq.-ft. house, originally built in 1928, has large living spaces with high ceilings and large windows, seven fireplaces, a custom chef’s kitchen with a center island, high-end appliances and prep space, three custom offices, a fitness studio with a private sauna, an indoor cabana bath next to a full ice cream bar, and a three-car, heated garage with Tesla and Mercedes charging stations. The outdoor features include a pool, an outdoor spa, a pickle ball/sports court with a drinking fountain, a gazebo, blue stone walkways, and wraparound and covered terraces for panoramic views.

Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s added that the property is “a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship, offering an unparalleled lifestyle” that “promises an exceptional living experience.”

The house was originally built as a stone apple barn for the Polly Park Farm Estate in 1860, and was converted into a home in the 1920s, according to Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s. It was called the “Mill Stone House” and was known as the house that was built to last forever.

In addition to Johnny Carson once owning the property, the well-known illustrator of the beloved “Amelia Bedelia” book series, Fritz Seibel, once lived in the home, according to Sotheby’s.

Another interesting bit of trivia from the realtor is that the home was the setting for an episode of MTV’s “Teen Cribs.”

According to property records, the house was last purchased for $800,000 in 1982.

The home is zoned to the Harrison school district and annual taxes are estimated to be $101,327.
