Selling DFR Gold Shares at a Lower Price Than Current Market Value May Have Been a Costly Mistake for Insiders

Despite the fact that DFR Gold Inc.’s (CVE:DFR) value has dropped 18% in the last week insiders who sold US$771k worth of stock in the past 12 months have had less success. Insiders might have been better off holding onto their shares, given that the average selling price of US$0.15 is still below the current share price.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

DFR Gold Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Non-Executive Director, Albert Gourley, for CA$771k worth of shares, at about CA$0.15 per share. While we don’t usually like to see insider selling, it’s more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of CA$0.045. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. Albert Gourley was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership Of DFR Gold

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it’s a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. DFR Gold insiders own about CA$3.7m worth of shares (which is 41% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About DFR Gold Insiders?

It doesn’t really mean much that no insider has traded DFR Gold shares in the last quarter.
