Earlier in March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a rally in Karnataka’s Belagavi, had also accused the Congress of insulting the veteran leader and reducing him to a remote-control party chief

Often calm, confident, and in command, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge lost his cool at an unruly crowd on Sunday at a public meeting in Telangana’s Kalwakurthy. The seasoned politician is currently campaigning for his party in poll-bound Telangana, where voting is due on November 30.

The Congress Chief was listing the poll promises of his party when the loud crown disturbed his stream of thoughts. A seemingly agitated Kharge scolded the audience.

Chup baitho, agar sunna hai to suno, nahi to get out. Don’t talk (like) that. Aap ko malum nahi hota ek All India Congress Committee ka neta bola raha? Aur tumhare mooh main tumko jo hota wo kehte. Agar sunna hai to suno, warna apni jagah ko jao (Sit silently, if you don’t want to listen, get out. Don’t talk like that. Don’t you see a leader of the All India Congress Committee is speaking? You are saying whatever is coming to your mouth. Listen if you want to, otherwise move on your way),” he said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has used the opportunity to once again calling Kharge a “rubber stamp president” of Congress.

BJP’s IT Cell Chief Amit Malviya took to X to post a 28 second slip from 29.8 minute broadcast of the rally, where the Congress chief is seen losing his calm.

In the caption, he wrote that despite being the party chief, Kharge is not given “requisite respect” by Congress worker and the senior leader is “humiliated’ in his public meetings.

“This is not unusual. Kharge ji, despite being the Congress President, is humiliated in all his public meetings. He helplessly screams and shouts at his workers, who don’t give him the requisite respect. The Gandhis have reduced him to a rubber stamp President. His photos had either disappeared or reduced to stamp size in all Rajasthan ads, for instance, whereas Rahul Gandhi and Gehlot’s pictures were displayed dominantly. Is the Congress insulting Mr Kharge because he is a Dalit?” he wrote.

Earlier in March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a rally in Karnataka’s Belagavi, had also accused the Congress of insulting the veteran leader and reducing him to a remote-control party chief.  PM Modi had said that despite the party chief’s seniority and age, Kharge was insulted by the Congress workers “in favour of a family,” apparently indicating the Nehru-Gandhi family.

“I want to remind you how Congress hates Karnataka. Insulting Karnataka’s leaders is part of Congress’ old culture. From whomever Congress’ family feels troubled, disrespecting them begins in that party. History stands witness to the insult meted out to the leaders such as S Nijalingappa and Veerendra Patil before the family. Everyone in Karnataka knows it,” he had said.
