Water main break in Oroville shuts down intersection of Mitchell Avenue and Washington Avenue | Local


OROVILLE, Calif. – A water main break shut down the intersection of Mitchell Avenue and Washington Avenue in Oroville Tuesday.

At approximately 1:03 p.m., CAL FIRE Butte Unit responded to a report of water coming up from under the roadway at the intersection of Mitchell Avenue and Washington Avenue. Engine 91 from Oroville was dispatched to investigate.

Oroville Police says that officers responded to the scene to provide traffic control near the impacted intersection.

According to CAL FIRE, crews from the California Water Service and Oroville Public Works responded to the scene around 1:15 p.m. to investigate the nature of the break.

CAL FIRE says that the street surface has been compromised at the intersection, leading to the closure of the intersection.

Cal Water tells Action News Now that it took crews approximately 45 minutes to shut off multiple valves in order to stop the flow of water and that 33 customers are impacted by the damaged water main.

Crews from Cal Water will be at the scene performing repairs to the main for the rest of the day and into the night, and Cal Water says that service should be restored to impacted customers by tomorrow morning.

Cal Water will be handing out bottled water to the 33 customers impacted by the disruption of water service.

Officials with Cal Water say that they will reimburse the cost of any water purchases by those impacted by the service outage if they bring their receipts to the Cal Water office at 1905 High Street in Oroville.
